Washington, DC Metro Station on a cold January morning in 2007. The man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approx. 2 thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

After 3 minutes a middle aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule.

4 minutes later:

The violinist received his first dollar: a woman threw the money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.

6 minutes:

A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

10 minutes:

A 3-year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forced their children to move on quickly.

45 minutes:

The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.

1 hour:

He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world.

He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars.

Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a true story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities.

The questions raised:

*In a common place environment at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?

*Do we stop to appreciate it?

*Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made.

Not much new to report...but I feel like I need to post. Life for me is still in transition a little bit. Mostly still trying to look for full time work between all the temping I'm doing. It feels good to have a place all to ourselves again- however I can't wait to reach my dream of living in some kind of green built house. As in eco friendly, surrounded by nature, a very peaceful environment. I know I'll get there someday.

Apple Muffins and Apple Pie

Ok, not gonna lie the muffins didn't come out as well as I expected...They were fine and then when I took them out the tops fell. They were thoroughly cooked and very moist but something about then was just off. It could be the fact I used some old wiccan recipe for "harvest muffins" It really didn't have too many ingredients.

As for the pie...it was my first Apple Pie with a lattice top. I didn't have any fancy cutter so the pizza cutter worked out great. I don't need all that fanciness anyway since I'm going to tear into it anyway. It turned out pretty good but I will need to look for an apple corer eventually that took way too long to cut and peel all those apples. I totally messed up the sides of the crust so just look past that- and thanks to the pie saver my crust was definitely not burned...nor were my fingers trying to put tin foil on.

Here is Minion playing with a bunch of knock off Army men! She loves to knock them down. No there aren't dolls in that box...it's full of CDs. I took that box from target when I worked there to pack stuff up to move. Don't hate.

100th POST!

Well I couldn't really think of anything spectacular for my 100th Post!

Today I finally started my New Year's Resolution! P90x! Today was day 1 and boy am I sore already...and I only did the stretching! Tomorrow will be rough- but only 89 more days right? Besides I want to start feeling better and looking healthy. Let's hope this works! If it does maybe I'll post some pictures.

Other than that my other resolutions are to cut back on cola...obviously get a job...and hopefully get some gallery representation. We shall see.

Anyway Florida has been cold- but luckily it is starting to warm up- heat is off...windows are wide open! Although I'm sure I'll have to close up once the sun goes down...I'll take what I can get.

Minion is adapting quite nicely...although we really need to get her a window perch- she can only look out two of the three windows on her own. Once we get my studio unpacked I'll post some new pictures of our place. Chris suggested I get a workspace all set up and the GORM shelving at IKEA will do quite nicely- durable, super cheap, and very customizable. You can't go wrong!

This is the Bumbleberry pie I made for Chris' Thanksgiving dinner. It contains fresh raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. It was my first pie I have ever made and it tasted great! It was a big hit at Thanksgiving with a nice scoop of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream on top too! :) Yum.

Quarter Life Crisis

Alright, so with dawn of still no work, I decided I must do something. So I applied at the dreaded M******'s Arts and Crafts again... we'll see if they hire me since I worked there three months before quitting and going to *. A******. They are hiring for Christmas already so I figured they might get desperate and hire me?

Otherwise I might look into Aveda Salon School or Paul Mitchell Salon School. Maybe not something I really want to do but I think it would pay the bills more than lets say doing nothing or even working at the Craft Store. We'll see...I'm broke and really don't want to add more student loans...but it would be for a shorter time period, let's say 18 months to complete all three areas. I would probably just go for the hair stylist. I think they would make the most money of the three. Aveda stylists said they make 48,000 after their third year...[according to their website] but god who knows if that is reliable facts or not?

Anyway I had some revelations of what I want out of life so I now have more direct goals of what I want.

*Working on a child story book, with hopes of getting published for this editor I am working with.

*I definitely think I want a farm house at some point in my life. Doesn't have to have a farm, but a barn would be nice so I could have nesting Barn Owls.

*I am going to try and start exercising, and looking into homeopathic medicine.

*I want to raise chickens and one goat, along with a few lots of cats in my lifetime.

*I want to learn to can/jar my own fruit jelly/preserves. As well as soups, fruits, vegetables. As well as grow them all myself.

*I want several tattoos. [sorry mom and dad- they'll be tasteful- no tweety birds or barbed wire- promise]

*Of course I would love to have my own gallery and have shows throughout all this.

However we shall see. I have lots to think about and do, so hopefully a job will come soon so I can pay off some student loan debt and head more towards my goals.

We are moving into our Condo today...of course only if the power gets turned on. I was last there around noon so hopefully it will get turned on today. I mean the guy said it would be on by five. Other than that I seem to be a magnet for contract work and commission sales jobs...Right now I could have 3 jobs but all for commission or contract. Not quite what I want becuase health insurance would be awesome! Going to try to get in at FedEx sometime this week to fill out an application.

Other than that, probably heading to Grandma's tomorrow and picking up some of our belongings and then heading back here to finish cleaning and unpacking. All and all this is a very busy week for us! It's exciting to have our space again...after nearly being homeless for a year... couch surfing isn't always fun when you do it for so long.

A little dirtier than I was expecting but I think they are working on that. I just have to bug the right people to get some digital copies until ours come back from the photo center. Which I think will be tomorrow? who knows.

This weekend Chris and I went up to St. Johns to paint our future bedroom and bathroom. Pictures to come soon.

Weak of will turn away.

So right before we left St. Johns at nearly midnight we come upstairs from the basement gaming room to hear Chris and Catherine listening for some kind of disturbance outside. Sure enough they heard a chicken attack! So we head outside to find the poor helpless victim... Sure enough we find one and then another one! Crazy! We go over to the one- neck snapped- no punctures- no blood. We scurry over to the other hen and like same thing- but wait! This one was still breathing and blinking at us... so we turn her over to see if she is going to make it. She sits up- but still cannot raise her head. Her neck was broken but still alive and able to move- Sadly I had to watch her get shot directly in the head to be euthanized... which she then flipped on her back and writhed around for a minute and unfortunately had to be shot again because she obviously was still very alive T-T ZOMG.

Craziness eh? So we think it is a wild dog since they are obviously not killing to eat= just for fun. Either way we're going shoot whatever the bastard thing is! So sadly to say they are only down to one hen now...everyone else has been eaten or killed mercilessly.

Other than that- just work this upcoming week and moving stuff to St. Johns with every trip up there we make.

Well bad news- I didn't get the job I applied so hard for- but that's ok- it just gives me more motivation to move on from my current company onto better things. Of course they gave it to the person who worked there 4 months before everyone- so I guess seniority rules over creativity. Well to start things off we went to get some pictures taken with Chris' family on Friday night and then went out for Chinese afterwards. Then Saturday was cookout and bonfire up in St Johns, along with some left over fireworks from Guy Fawkes day.
Then Sunday was an awesome Brunch in Howell! Here are some pictures from the weekend!
First up- I got to practice my first stencil art in the barns in St Johns. It says "When will my ship come in?" and it has a picture of a pirate ship- which the flag itself is kind of hard to make out. Next is some random shots of the night followed by some slow motion photography I was taking with everyone and their sparklers.

Well to go with last weekend Corey and Erin came over and took Chris and I out to dinner at Cancun- a fantastic Mexican restaurant. They then came over and baked me an awesome cake we celebrated with board games. Here is a few pictures from that evening...

Moving on to Toledo!
I went down to Toledo for a few reasons... one to attend a BFA show, and the other to celebrate birthdays! The BFA show was more or less a joke... sad to say but barely any of the faculty were there and the ones that were barely spoke a single word to me. I drove two hours to see one girl in the show= who ended up leaving within five minutes after I arrived. I'll make sure not to go out of my way to see old friends again that's for sure. However Amy, Andrea, and Kara showed up and that was an amazing time and I am glad at least someone cared to show up.
After the show ended at 8...even though it was to go til 9. The girls and I headed toward the Blarney Stone, an Irish pub downtown across from the Mud Hens stadium. I got my cover paid and a drink for my past birthday! yay!

Then on Saturday, my sister and her husband came down to celebrate our birthdays, mine a week late and hers a week early. We went out to lunch at Zingo's an awesome Mediterranean restaurant. I had a nice grilled chicken gyro. I'll take Chris there someday. After that we went shopping for maternity clothes and then back home to go out to dinner at Tony Packo's! It was a good time. Afterwards we went home for cake and presents!

It was a great night with lots of good cake!

Extravaganza issue:
So much to say! Well on Saturday Chris had class and I took the pleasure of sleeping in pretty much until 11am. Afterwards we met up with his mom and brother and they took me out to lunch at Ruby Tuesdays! and bought me presents!! Yay! Two art books- one being the 20th century art book- to match the other art book I have in the series- just two more and I will be caught up= One being the 500 self portraits and the photo book.
The other book being "Stencil Pirates" another book about graffiti artists and their trade. It also has tips and way to avoid the PoPo- not that I will be grafting anything soon but the slogan "Kill Sally May" does sound quite nice posted everywhere the eye can see. :D

Then afterwards I came home to nap for almost 2 hours in which Corey and Erin came over to take me out to dinner- this time Cancun- which was some amazing mexican food and Chris and I have never been. It was marvelous! Then afterwards they made me a devil's food cake and we played board games and got a little of the good times in with Jerry Blank. "I once cried when I had no shoes...then I met a guy who had no feet. Then I laughed... really hard." Sigh* my life would be incomplete without her.

Birthday over! yay one year wiser I guess.

Sunday:
Slept in again! and then off to Erin's apt to meet up with Corey and her friends for a little BBQ- which was also amazing. I got a little frisbee exercise in as well. It was a blast even with annoying children running around with fake birds....

so there you have it- a birthday update- of course when I go down to toledo this weekend there will be a part two of the birthday extravaganza! w00t! Of cours happy birthday to my twin too- Too bad you won't be able to come over next weekend too T-T Present is in the mail ^-^

I know this is kind of old- but after Alanis remade "Humps" from Black Eyed Peas- she also did a Seal remix of "Crazy." I think it is fantastic! She also just released a new album and is now touring for it- her first new album since 2004. Should be promising- her new single is called "Underneath" check it out on the radios fools it is awesome!

Time for an update- This weekend was a lot of fun- I spent Saturday up in Saint Johns- it was fun to go outside since it is getting nicer out. The barns were fun and I got to go in the "other one" that I haven't been in. I want one. Plus I got to dissect a mauled rabbit- which the only organs it has left were it's heart, one lung and one kidney...Awesome! We think Ming ate the rest. [dogs are gross]

Sunday my parents came up to have lunch and do tax stuff. We went browsing at Kean's and at the Antique market- it was fun. I made Red Velvet cake for dessert and it was pretty good for a box cake mix. It went really fast- but most Sundays do...especially with work looming on Monday.

Monday - after work Chris and I met up with Corey and Erin at Smokey Bones to chat and have some light appetizers. It was a great time- but hopefully Corey remembers to pick up some NORWEGIAN hand lotion.

Which leads to today- still trucking at work- and still off of overtime. It is nice for a change but hopefully we will resume in a week or so. Can't turn down the money at times like these.

Other than that just keeping busy trying to do some art everyday- and can't wait to be able to go outside all the time!

For those of you with dire needs - I have assembled a short list of birthday ideas. [punks!]

1. "300" The movie- preferably the best one. ie the two disc special edition- I know target carries it for around 22- bucks- but maybe it is on sale for more?

2. "Grindhouse"- Another movie featuring Quentin Tarintino's Movie- "Death Proof" and his picked up movie "Planet Terror"

Ok there you go- I'll update more if I think of anything- but I think for now I'd rather just go out to dinner or lunch or something.

Other than that- still on overtime- hitting our 3rd month of straight overtime and I doubt it will stop for at least another two months. T-T the money is good- but you know- as Yakko put it best on Animaniacs:

"Early to rise, early to bed, makes a man healthy but socially dead."

I can totally feel the dead part- haha

Anyway time for lunch- so I'll post more later.

Well since Torren posted his bday list- I guess I should too. Mine is pretty easy this year. I had started a blanket out of all the yarn scraps from the three scarves I made this winter and sure enough I am almost out of yarn :( So yeah maybe some yarn for my birthday- definietly no clothes or Chris will kill me. lol

Other than that- everyone save your money since I owe everyone money anyway. Party details will come shortly! Around April 19th which is a Saturday[also my birthday] But we shall see-

Other than that Easter is upon us and we all know what that means. Jesus comes out of his cave and if he sees his shadow we have six more weeks of winter...or something like that. [According to Chris :D]

Well time for an update= not too much going on here= lots of overtime still...which should hopefully slow down after march - and hopefully before may- until then I work about 50-60 hours a week. Money is good but I have zero time to do much of anything else. So I have to make the best of my free time these days.

April 25th is the upcoming BFA show at my old University- Courtney is who I am going to see since Helen had to wait another year. But I will go see hers too next year. So that should be fun.

Chris will be starting more classes soon which will be exciting since he will get a few steps closer to graduating too. :D School sucks though- but he will do fine.

Alright gotta cut it short time for bed!
